CPI(M) MLA and prominent actor M Mukesh has been formally arrested by a Special Investigation Team concerning a 2010 sexual assault case in Thrissur, Kerala. Mukesh's legal representative confirmed the arrest.
The arrest followed a medical examination and potency test. Mukesh was released on anticipatory bail previously granted by the sessions court. Two separate cases have been registered against him—one in Wadakkanchery and the other in Maradu—and in both instances, he has secured anticipatory bail.
These allegations arise amid a wave of sexual misconduct accusations involving prominent Malayalam film industry figures, catalyzed by revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report. This report was commissioned by the Kerala government post the 2017 actress assault case and shed light on widespread harassment and exploitation of women in cinema.
