The Pontiff's Health: A Journey Through the Years
Pope Francis has faced numerous health challenges over the years, including lung issues, falls, sciatica, and knee problems. Despite being hospitalized for bronchitis recently, he continues to manage his health, opting for therapies over surgery for some ailments.

VATICAN CITY, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Health issues continue to challenge Pope Francis, who was hospitalized on Friday for bronchitis treatment, adding to a history of health struggles for the 88-year-old pontiff.
At 21, Jorge Bergoglio battled pleurisy, leading to partial lung removal. Since January 2023, repeated influenza bouts have plagued him. Canceled appointments, including a September 2024 absence, underscore his ongoing battle. In March 2023, a bronchitis diagnosis required antibiotics, yet he swiftly returned to duties.
Recent falls, a 2023 surgery for an abdominal hernia, and ongoing back and knee issues further test the Pope's resilience. Despite challenges, he balances traditional therapies and a less active lifestyle, occasionally using a wheelchair. Mental health support also played a role, as he once leaned on psychiatric help for anxiety relief.
