In a significant development in the gold smuggling case linked to noted actress Ranya Rao, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have made another arrest. The individual, the son of a prominent hotelier, is alleged to have been a partner in the smuggling ring.
The arrested businessman was brought before the special court for economic offences, which granted the DRI five days of custody for further investigation. This arrest could provide critical insights into the operation's scope and the individuals involved.
Last week, the DRI seized gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore from Kannada actor Harshavardhini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao, at Kempegowda International Airport. Ranya Rao is notably the stepdaughter of a senior IPS officer, Ramachandra Rao, who holds a high-ranking position in the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.
