A significant drone attack by Ukraine targeting the Russian capital resulted in 69 drones being intercepted on Tuesday morning, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. This unprecedented attack in recent months coincided with scheduled peace talks between the Ukrainian delegation and the United States in Saudi Arabia, aiming to resolve the long-standing conflict.
Mayor Sobyanin reported that at least 11 drones were shot down in the districts of Ramensky and Domodedovo that surround Moscow. The attack resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to three others, while damaging seven apartments in the Ramensky area. Damage in Moscow was described as 'insignificant' by officials, although footage showed significant impact on a residential building facade.
In response to the attack, Russian civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia imposed flight restrictions across four Moscow airports, impacting both southern and northern transportation hubs. Additionally, there was a temporary suspension of train services at the Domodedovo railway station, as reported by local officials.
