Concerns have been raised regarding the renovation of The Retreat, a significant heritage site near Shimla, by Tikender Singh Panwar, former Deputy Mayor of the city and current CPI(M) leader. The Retreat, officially known as Rashtrapati Niwas, serves as the summer residence of the Indian President.

In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Panwar criticized the ongoing construction work, involving steel, for not aligning with the site's architectural and ecological integrity. He emphasized the need for adherence to heritage standards, noting the use of white paint instead of traditional materials, which detracts from the historical aesthetic.

While applauding efforts to make the site accessible to the public, Panwar urged the President to consider his observations and ensure the preservation of The Retreat's historical and environmental value.
