Comedian Kunal Kamra remains resolute, refusing to apologize for his controversial comments about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a stance that has ignited a political brouhaha in the state. Kamra's remarks, delivered during a recorded show, involved modifying the lyrics of a Hindi film song to comment on Shinde's political journey.
Despite calls from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for an apology, Kamra stands firm, supported by opposition leader Udhav Thackeray and political entities like Congress and CPI (M). Kamra's defiance follows the vandalism of the Habitat Comedy Club by Shiv Sena members, who opposed his act.
In defending his freedom of speech, Kamra critiqued political reaction, questioned fair application of the law, and mocked the destruction of his venue as illogical. The comedian humorously suggested alternative sites like Elphinstone bridge for his next show. Meanwhile, police have arrested several individuals linked to the vandalism.
