Maharashtra is making strides to honor the legacy of 18th-century Indore ruler Ahilyabai Holkar through significant investments in her birthplace, Chondi. Marking her 300th birth anniversary, the government has announced a Rs 681 crore development plan, with projects already underway in the Ahilyanagar district.
A cabinet meeting in Chondi last month led to the approval of the comprehensive development strategy. Rs 154 crore of the total funding has been allocated to various projects, including appointing architectural consultants. Among the initiatives is a Rs 1 crore Marathi feature film to celebrate and showcase the life and legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar.
The government's supplementary financial demands include a Rs 13.2 crore equity investment in the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Cooperative Spinning Mill Ltd and a Rs 17.7 crore long-term loan for the same. Infrastructure projects include a Rs 61.38 crore allocation for road upgrades between Karjat and Kusadgaon and a Rs 25 lakh provision for the civil judge's residence in Karjat.
