In a bid to ensure an eco-friendly Gauri-Ganesha festival, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced a crackdown on the use of non-eco-friendly Ganesha idols. Chief Commissioner Maheshwara Rao highlighted that idols made with chemical paints, thermocol, or Plaster of Paris will be seized, with criminal cases lodged against their manufacturers.

The BBMP is taking steps to manage the festival's wet waste and encourage the use of eco-friendly idols. Rao emphasized the implementation of a single-window system to streamline permissions for public Ganesha idol installations, involving coordination between the Police, BESCOM, Fire Department, and other departments.

Designated immersion locations will be identified for larger idols, while citizens are urged to immerse smaller eco-friendly idols at home. Mobile immersion units may be deployed if required. The initiative underscores the BBMP's commitment to minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices during the festive period.
