Young director Amitabha Chatterjee's film '8' stands out as the sole black-and-white entry in the Bengali Panorama of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), commencing November 6. The film, featuring just two actors, is a significant personal project for Chatterjee, encapsulating his indie filmmaking journey over eight years.

'8' interweaves clips from Chatterjee's earlier works with his monologues, providing an unscripted exploration of longing and loneliness. Chatterjee painstakingly handled all aspects of the film, including writing, acting, cinematography, editing, and sound, to maintain its raw authenticity and emotional depth.

This film is not a standard narrative but a visceral exploration of themes like love slipping away and the passage of time, articulated through Chatterjee's quirky dialogues with the actors Suraiya Pravin and Jagannath Chakraborty. Chatterjee's earlier work, 'Manohar & I', received critical acclaim and multiple awards, marking him as a rising talent in Indian cinema.
