The RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to embark on an important visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from December 11. The three-day tour will include the unveiling of a statue of India's ideologue VD Savarkar, officials confirmed Monday.
This will mark Bhagwat's inaugural visit to the union territory in his capacity as sarsanghchalak, although he previously visited nearly twenty years ago as the organization's general secretary. He will begin his visit by meeting local RSS functionaries on arrival.
On December 12, Bhagwat will reveal the Savarkar statue at Beodnabad in South Andaman, followed by a song release on Savarkar at the Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology. He will then address the public at Netaji Stadium on December 13 before concluding his visit. Enhanced security has been implemented across the region to ensure safety during the commemorative events organized by the Mumbai-based Valuable Group.
