Launched in 2021, the scheme offers subsidized meals at Rs 5. With over 72.9 million beneficiaries, it operates in 33 district hospitals, with state investment reaching Rs 129 crore.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an unexpected visit to a 'Maa Canteen' located at SSKM Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

During her visit, she personally served food to the beneficiaries, many of whom were elderly, and engaged in conversations with them about the canteen's operations and service quality.

The 'Maa Canteen' initiative, started in 2021, aims to provide affordable meals at just Rs 5 and has significantly expanded throughout the state, with a presence in 33 district hospitals and benefiting nearly 72.9 million people.
