Reviving Kashmir's Cinematic Legacy: Omar Abdullah Explores Collaboration at IICT

On Thursday, Jammu & Kashmir's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, visited the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) campus in Mumbai. The visit aimed to explore potential collaboratives in film education and creative technologies to help rejuvenate the film industry in the union territory.
Hosted by IICT's Chief Executive Officer, Vishwas Deoskar, and Governing Council Member Munjal Shroff, the visit included a curated audiovisual presentation at the Rangayan Preview Theatre. The presentation outlined IICT's vision and its role in advancing India's creative economy, followed by interactive demonstrations of augmented, virtual, and mixed reality technologies at the Anubhuti Drishya Immersive Studio Lab.
Abdullah also observed a Digital Twin demonstration at the Photogrammetry Studio, underscoring the significance of emerging technologies in modern filmmaking. Reflecting on Kashmir's cinematic history, Abdullah noted the past challenges and emphasized the need to build local expertise in filmmaking and post-production, aiming to restore Kashmir as a prime filming destination.
