Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty found himself at the center of an online storm following his recent visit to a newly established township in Wayanad. Reports indicate that a controversy erupted when Mammootty voiced dissatisfaction at CPI(M) district secretary K Rafeeq's presence during his visit, fearing it could be misconstrued as a political engagement.
Amidst allegations of online attacks purportedly from CPI(M) supporters, senior party leaders, including Ministers P A Mohammed Riyas and P Rajeev, avoided direct comments on the issue. Riyas did, however, commend Rafeeq for his history of involvement in local relief efforts, underscoring that Mammootty visited the area to gain independent insight.
In contrast, Congress leader Cherian Philip condemned the alleged cyber assault on Mammootty, attributing it to comments he made about the township's public funding. He criticized any political exploitation of the actor's visit, emphasizing Mammootty's standing as a respected figure in Kerala.
