Fourteen individuals have been apprehended after accusations surfaced regarding a controversial Iftar meal held on a boat on the Ganga river. The group, captured in a viral video, was seen consuming biryani, prompting allegations of defiling a sacred place and offending religious sentiments.
The incident sparked legal action following a complaint from Rajat Jaiswal, city unit chief of BJP Yuva Morcha. Jaiswal's complaint emphasized the deep spiritual significance of the Ganga for Sanatan Dharma followers, describing the meal and its remnants as disrespectful to this sanctity.
The FIR was filed under several legal provisions, including sections for injuring a place of worship, promoting religious enmity, and public nuisance. The Additional Commissioner of Police, Vijay Pratap Singh, confirmed the arrests after the video circulated online.
