Will Sherlock Season 5 return with Molly Hooper, Sian Brooke, Benedict Cumberbatch?

Sherlock Season 5 is virtually confirmed what we have already revealed in our previous articles. But some fans are worried whether everyone’s favourite Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will return or not to reprise their roles in the crime drama television series.

It’s true that future of Sherlock Season 5 is still uncertain as neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman vowed to come back in the series. But there is no doubt that fans have highly liked the series including their exclusive characters Sherlock Homes and Dr. John Watson respectively and their careers have significantly grown since the BBC One series premiered in 2010.

Currently, Sherlock Season 5 is not in production as the creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are busy in the making of new series Dracula. According to Steven Moffat, as the Dracula project has already been started, it is quite tough for the team members to work for Sherlock concurrently. However, EconoTimes recently reminded that Mark Gatiss earlier revealed that getting the cast members at one podium to make Season 4 was a ‘nightmare’. And now they are expecting to have similar trouble for Season 5.

But the avid viewers and fans mustn’t worry as Benedict Cumberbatch earlier expressed his eagerness to reprise his role in the series. “Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock,” Thor: Ragnarok actor previously said in a conversation with Radio Times. Even Moffat said to a BBC Radio 2 journalist in the presence of Chris Evan that “he was optimistic of a fifth series at some point in the future despite everybody's busy schedules.”

There is also an effort from the series creators and actors to ensure that the fifth season is not made the same with the previous instalments. From this perspective, we believe that they may take some extra time to work on it as they are already giving their maximum time in Dracula and other respective projects.

One good news for fans is that The Walking Dead actress Eleanor Matsuura is passionate to come back in Sherlock Season 5. In Season 4’s premiere episode titled The Six Thatchers, she was first introduced as Stella Hopkins. We all had seen her having a video call with Sherlock whom she assured to help. But after that, she wasn’t seen in the series. This creates a gap in the plot which is expected to give her a chance in the fifth season.

On the other hand, Molly Hooper and Sian Brooke are also eager to reprise their roles in Sherlock Season 5 as Louise Brealey and Eurus Holmes respectively. Since BBC One has yet to officially confirm the fifth instalment, all these unconfirmed claims should be taken with a grain of salt.
