Heatwave Strikes Sacred Sites: Temples Alter Rituals for Rising Temperatures

A severe heatwave has caused a significant drop in the number of devotees visiting major temples in Ayodhya and Varanasi, prompting officials to implement special measures to provide relief and ensure comfort.

Authorities have set up air-cooled waiting halls and are using fogging machines for water spraying to lower temperatures. Additionally, temple rituals have been adapted with cool water baths for idols and seasonal refreshments like lassi and fruit juices offered daily.

The intense heat has led to a drop from over one lakh to under 40,000 visitors at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Measures across temples include installation of air conditioners and traditional shower systems to maintain deity comfort during the searing temperatures.
