Another casualty from the devastating Mundathikode fireworks explosion was reported at Thrissur Medical College on Monday, raising the death toll to 17, police confirmed.
The latest victim, Rakesh, aged 29, from Kundannur, Thrissur, was deeply involved in local cultural festivities. He was among those trying to escape when the explosion occurred on April 21. Suffering extensive burns, he was admitted to the ICU but did not survive, police stated.
Authorities have intensified their investigation, with a judicial commission led by Justice CN Ramachandran probing the incident. DNA analysis to confirm four missing individuals' fate continues. The explosion impacted Thrissur Pooram celebrations, prompting a scale-down. Meanwhile, 17 of the 38 present at the site have perished.
