Researchers have successfully captured the first-ever camera-trap image of a musk deer in the Yordi Rabe Supse Wildlife Sanctuary, located in India's Arunachal Pradesh. The photograph marks a significant achievement in documenting the biodiversity of this remote eastern Himalayan region.
This rare sighting was confirmed by district forest department officials who installed the camera trap in the rugged, densely forested terrain of the sanctuary. Wildlife experts deem this a notable event, as musk deer are notoriously elusive, due to their nocturnal properties and shy nature.
Arunachal Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, heralded the discovery as a wildlife conservation breakthrough on social media, emphasizing the ecological importance of these mountain forests. The new evidence is expected to lead to greater ecological surveys and long-term conservation planning in the region.
