Sherlock Season 5 is still looked upon by worldwide fans to be confirmed by BBC. The future of fifth season of crime drama television series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories is still uncertain despite hints from Hartswood Films.

Sherlock Season 5 has recently been teased several times. Multiple online outlets say that Benedict Cumberbatch, who played the protagonist Sherlock's role in the series, never said No to reprise his role for another season. Whereas, unfortunately, Martin Freeman, who played the role of Doctor John Watson, may not reprise his role.

As far as Martin Freeman's unlikely-reprisal in Sherlock Season 5 is concerned, there must be someone to fill in the gap. He previously said in a conversation with Telegraph, It's not a thing to be enjoyed, it's a thing of, 'You better f*** do this, that's not fun anymore."

The last episode of Sherlock Season 4 titled 'The Final Problem' garnered 5.9 million viewers from the United Kingdom whereas the premiere-episode titled 'The Six Thatchers gathered 8.1 million viewers in the same territory. Some belief, this could spell trouble for working on another season. However, we don't fuel this kind of speculation as Sherlock is a long-time awaited miniseries.

On the other hand, showrunner Steven Moffat once said that Sherlock Season 5 may return although they had no idea when they could commence the production. Yes, it's true that BBC can renew the show anytime but it depends on the show creators, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss's willingness for another season.

Another encouraging fact for the avid viewers is that one insider named Chris Georgiou revealed to Time Out that there was an absolute possibility of another season. He runs Speedy's Café at 221B Baker Street that previously used to serve meals at the set. He is believed to be in touch with the series creator and may have the idea of whether his service will be renewed or not during the next production work.

"I probably shouldn't be saying this, but I've heard they'll be coming back for a fifth season," he said.

On the other hand, in a conversation with Radio Times in February 2018, Moffat almost gave a confirmation BBC would renew Sherlock for Season 5 as its future was up to them. He also confirmed that nobody had refused to make a comeback in the series.
