The petition claims that "Bhangi is an Indian caste which is among the lowest of Dalits or Untouchables in India. They even have subdivisions and together form up to 70 Cr backward classes in India." The petition seeks a ban on the casual and "demeaning" use of word Bhangi so that the community can get the long due respect and can blend in society.
