Teams of the food and drug administration seized huge quantities of spurious milk, milk products, and adulterants from two units in Punjab's Patiala and Moga districts today, an official said.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted by food safety teams and the police at Singla Milk Chilling Centre near Devigarh in Patiala, Food and Drug Administration commissioner K S Pannu said.

He said 53 bags of milk powder, 250 liters of sulphuric acid, 1,530 liters of chemical, 750 liters of vinegar, 10 quintals of white powder, 9 kg detergent, 7,000 liters of milk, 20 quintals of cottage cheese and 45 kg butter were seized from the spot.

In the second raid at Vishnu Milk Centre in Moga's Bagha Purana, one quintal of skimmed milk powder, 15 kg detergent, 28 quintals of spurious clarified butter, 300 liters of curd and 300 kg cottage cheese were seized, he said.

Samples of all the products have been sent to the state lab in Kharar for testing, he added.

Prosecution proceedings will be launched after the reports are received, Pannu said.
