Bucs place RB Sims (knee) on IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed running back Charles Sims III on injured reserve.

The fifth-year player injured his knee Saturday as he blocked on the opening kickoff at Tennessee.

The Bucs picked Sims, who turns 28 next month, in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He signed a one-year contract to stay with the team in April as an unrestricted free agent. Spotrac reported the contract was worth $1 million.

He had his most productive season in 2015. As the third-down running back behind Doug Martin, he rushed for 529 yards on 107 carries and added 51 receptions for 561 yards and four scores.
