4kg opium seized in Khunti

The police have seized 4kg opium and arrested three persons in this connection in Khunti district, the police said Sunday. Superintendent of Police Aswini Kumar Sinha said he got a tip-off that opium was to be sold at Hakaduba More in the district on Saturday.

A team was formed and during the raid the police arrested Ashok Ram, his wife Anita Devi and Manki Munda while Munda was handing over opium to the couple, the SP told reporters here.

During interrogation, the couple said that they were in the opium business for the past several years and they came to purchase opium at Hakaduba More on Saturday at Rs one lakh per kg when the police intercepted them.

The police recovered the opium from Madki Munda and Rs four lakh from the possession of Ashok Ram, the SP said. The police also seized a car, motorcycle and mobiles.
