Central, Western Railways celebrates foundation day

WR came into existence with the merger of Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway (BB&CI) to other railway networks owned by erstwhile states like Saurashtra, Rajputana and Jaipur. WR and CR organised functions to mark the occasion.

Central and Western Railways Monday celebrated their Foundation Day. The two zonal railways were restructured on November 5, 1951. CR was formed by integrating Nizam state, Scindia state and Dholpur state railways with the erstwhile Great Indian Peninsula Railway which was set up earlier by an Act of the British Parliament in 1849.

While WR held an exhibition at its Churchgate headquarters, CR introduced an "Utkrisht" rake for the Mumbai-Pune Pragati Express. Utkrisht rakes are upgraded trains with better interiors and passenger amenities.
