Telangana Urges Centre to Allot Coal Blocks to Singareni Without Auction

The Telangana government has requested the Centre to allocate coal blocks near Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) without auctioning, to secure the mining company's future. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the necessity for new coal mines and criticized the BJP-led government's auction process, seeking direct allotment.

In a significant move, the Telangana government has urged the Centre to allocate all coal blocks near Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to the state-run mining firm without undergoing the auction process. This appeal was made by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday.

Vikramarka announced plans to meet Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a coalition of all parties to present their case. He stressed that acquiring new coal mines is crucial for SCCL's future, given that existing coal reserves are depleting.

The ongoing disagreement centers on the BJP-led government's auction of coal mines, which Vikramarka contends harms Telangana's interests. He advocates for a direct allotment under the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act, 1957, to ensure the prosperity of this key public sector entity.
