Bomb explosion followed with gunfire outside Afghan ministry

A car packed with explosives blew up outside Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works on Monday, with gunfire then breaking out, the interior ministry said, but there was no word on casualties.

Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman at the interior ministry, said several gunmen took up positions in a nearby building after the blast and they were exchanging fire with the Afghan security forces.
