Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a crucial meeting on Wednesday to review the country's preparedness for dengue prevention, containment, and management. With the onset of monsoon and rising global dengue cases, the urgency of the situation was underscored in the meeting held in the national capital.
Briefed on the nationwide dengue situation, Nadda highlighted the significant reduction in the Dengue Case Fatality Rate from 3.3% in 1996 to 0.1% in 2024 due to focused interventions. He directed officials to concentrate efforts on high-burden states and emphasized the need for inter-ministerial collaboration, including meetings with the Ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs, Rural Development, Education, and local governments.
Nadda also pointed out the importance of community awareness on dengue prevention, particularly through campaigns targeting school children and the general population to avoid mosquito breeding and bites. He directed the creation of a 24/7 central helpline for dengue-related queries and emergencies, suggesting states to establish similar services.
