Tripura CM Addresses Misleading Reports on HIV-Positive Students

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha assured the public that the government remains highly vigilant and committed to addressing the issue of HIV-positive students in the state. In an interview with ANI, CM Saha emphasized that comprehensive measures have been in place for years to protect youths and students from AIDS.

In light of recent media reports, the Tripura State AIDS Control Society has clarified that the reported number of HIV-positive students, cited as 828 cases over 17 years with 47 deaths, is a cumulative figure. The society urged the media to consider this context when discussing the data to avoid misleading interpretations.

According to the Society's press release, the National AIDS Control Programme was initiated in Tripura in April 1999. Over the past 25 years, the organization has diligently worked under the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) guidelines to manage and curb the spread of HIV. The report highlighted that all identified students have received free anti-retroviral treatment (ART), adhering to these national protocols.
