Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin paid tribute to freedom fighter Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone on the latter's birth anniversary in Chennai on Thursday. The tribute event saw the participation of party members and took place in the state capital, as noted by Tamil Nadu's Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone, born on July 11, 1728, and martyred on July 19, 1759, is hailed as India's first freedom fighter. Originating from Kattalankulam in Thoothukudi District, Kone led a rebellion against the British presence in Tamil Nadu, waging war against the Presidency armies from 1750 to 1759.

Despite his defeat in battle against British and Maruthanayagam's forces in 1759, Kone's legacy endures. To honor his bravery, the government of Tamil Nadu organizes an annual Pooja ceremony on July 11, celebrating his contributions to India's fight for independence. (ANI)
