Jammu-Akhnoor Highway on High Alert Following Terrorist Ambush

This follows reports from locals about an unidentified person spotted in the area. The Jammu-Akhnoor Highway is under high alert with intensified security checks at Nakas.

This escalation in security comes in the wake of a gruesome terrorist ambush that claimed the lives of five soldiers and left eight others injured. The attack took place on July 8, in the Badnota area of Kathua, disrupting a patrolling party of the Army. Located around 150 km from Kathua town, the Machedi-KindliMalhar road where the incident occurred is part of an old infiltration route that the terrorists have seemingly reactivated, according to officials.

The recent terror activities coincide with the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, which began on June 29 and will conclude on August 19. This 52-day journey sees devotees of Lord Shiva undertake a perilous trek to the holy cave in the Kashmir Himalayas.
