Mumbai Faces Severe Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos After Heavy Rainfall

Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall from Saturday night to Sunday, resulting in severe waterlogging and traffic jams. The IMD has issued an orange alert, predicting more intense rain in isolated places. Residents are advised to stay indoors unless necessary.

Mumbai received heavy rainfall from Saturday night into Sunday, leading to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city. The Andheri Subway was affected, and several areas near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were inundated.

The downpour caused severe traffic jams on the Western Express Highway. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Nowcast warning for intense rain in isolated areas of Raigad and Thane for the next 3 to 4 hours on Sunday.

"Intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Raigad and Thane during the next 3-4 hours," IMD Mumbai reported early Sunday. Mumbai's civic authorities have asked residents to avoid going out unless necessary due to the orange alert for heavy rain.

The IMD's orange alert also covers Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region. Saturday morning rain caused severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rain for several days, with temperatures expected to range between 29 and 24 degrees Celsius.
