Rising Chandipura Virus Cases in Gujarat: Five New Suspected Infections Reported
Five suspected cases of Chandipura virus have been reported in Gujarat's Sabarkantha district, joining the 14 admissions at Sabarkantha Civil Hospital. Six deaths have occurred, and seven cases are under treatment. The virus has spread across multiple districts, prompting a review by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Five more suspected cases of Chandipura virus have emerged from Gujarat's Sabarkantha district. Local officials confirmed that 14 individuals have been admitted to Sabarkantha Civil Hospital with symptoms of the virus. 'Till now, there are 14 cases of Chandipura virus in Sabarkantha Civil Hospital. Out of the 14 cases, 6 people have died. 7 cases under treatment at Himmatnagar Hospital,' stated Sabarkantha District Health Officer Raj Sutariya.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune confirmed the first fatality involving a four-year-old girl from Gujarat. In the past 24 hours, five children in Himmatnagar have shown symptoms of Chandipura virus.
Six children are currently undergoing treatment for suspected infection in Himmatnagar Civil Hospital. Reports of suspected cases have surfaced from various districts in Gujarat.
Officials noted three deaths from Chandipura virus in the Aravalli district and one case in the Kheda district. Twelve samples have been sent to the NIV for further examination. Neighboring Rajasthan has also reported a fatality due to the virus.
In light of the rising cases, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed the situation, conferring with Health Minister Rishikesh Patel and senior officials. The CM held a video conference to coordinate with State Municipal Commissioners, District Collectors, District Development Officers, and Chief District Health Officers.
