Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena held a detailed review of the afforestation and greening status on Thursday. The review, which covered projects over the past two years, also saw Saxena instructing officials on future strategies, according to a statement from the LG's Secretariat.
During the review, it was revealed that while 48 lakh trees and shrubs were planted in 2022-23, this number significantly increased to 89 lakhs in 2023-24. The Delhi Development Authority alone accounted for 14.61 lakh trees during this period. For the current year, the number stands at 67 lakhs, despite limited land availability.
To further enhance green spaces, LG Saxena directed officials to explore layered plantations, Miyawaki forests, and aquatic forests. Over 9 lakh trees were planted under Saxena's direct supervision, including significant contributions at Asola Bhati Mines and various parks. This comes amid Aam Aadmi Party's allegations of illegal tree cutting under his orders. (ANI)
