YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former Andhra Pradesh Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has alleged that YSRCP leaders and workers have been physically attacked since the TDP came to power. Reddy claimed that the ruling TDP is involved in the murder of YSRCP youth wing leader Sheikh Rasheed.
According to police, Rasheed, 27, was hacked to death on Wednesday at a crowded bus stand in Mandlamudi, Vinukonda town, Palnadu district. The video of the murder was widely circulated on social media. The YSRCP accused a TDP worker of the crime.
'Attacks on YSRCP leaders by TDP workers are intensifying. Rasheed was brutally murdered,' said Reddy. 'The SP said it was due to personal rivalry. Some TDP leaders are claiming the victim and accused are both YSRCP members. The killer is from TDP, and everyone knows this. We must identify the masterminds. CM Jagan will visit Rasheed's family tomorrow.'
Meanwhile, Tirupati MP M. Gurumoorthy condemned the attack on Rajampet MP Peddireddy Midhun Reddy, allegedly by TDP workers. Midhun Reddy was attacked while visiting former MP Reddeppa's residence in Punganur. Both Gurumoorthy and Midhun Reddy are YSR Congress Party leaders.
Gurumoorthy labeled the attack on Midhun Reddy as 'highly shameful' and called for immediate government action to ensure the safety of elected representatives. He questioned the government's ability to protect ordinary party workers if an MP could not be secured.
The MP accused the police of inaction during the attack on Midhun Reddy and expressed concern over rising political violence. 'Power is not permanent, and those instigating violence today will not be in power tomorrow. The ruling party leaders should take measures to prevent such incidents,' Gurumoorthy said.
