Restoration work is currently underway at the site of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment in Gonda, where three lives were lost, and 30 passengers were injured. The tragic incident happened when several coaches of the train went off the tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda on Thursday.

The derailment occurred near Gonda station between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway at around 2:37 pm. Approximately 4-5 coaches from the front of the Dibrugarh Express derailed. Upon receiving the information, medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER rushed to the scene.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured that the injured were promptly transported to hospitals for proper treatment. He emphasized that rescue and relief operations are in full force. Adityanath directed officials to expedite the relief work and expressed his sorrow over the tragedy in a statement on social media. The Ministry of Railways has provided ex gratia payments to the victims' families and those injured.

A Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry is already underway, and a high-level probe has also been ordered to investigate the rail derailment.
