Government Intensifies Operations Amid Rising Terror Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir

Union Minister Jitendra Singh discussed increased terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the government has implemented stringent measures. The Prime Minister is personally reviewing the measures. The establishment and modernization of BDGs were also highlighted. Four soldiers were killed during a recent Doda encounter.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, addressed escalating terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, emphasizing that the government has enacted stringent measures in response. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing these efforts, Singh informed reporters.

'The government has taken major action against such incidents recently. The Prime Minister himself is reviewing the situation,' Singh stated. 'New strategies are being developed by our Army and military forces which cannot be disclosed publicly,' he added.

Singh also highlighted the revival and modernization of Border Defence Groups (BDGs). 'The issue of reviving BDGs is being seriously discussed. BDGs will not only be revived but established wherever necessary, with modernized weaponry,' he said.

Earlier in the day, residents paid their last respects to Captain Brijesh Thapa at his hometown, Lebong, Darjeeling. Thapa was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Doda district on Tuesday.

The encounter, part of a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, resulted in the deaths of four Indian Army soldiers, including Captain Thapa. A heavy firefight ensued after establishing contact with terrorists around 9 pm on July 15.

On July 16, LtGen MV Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, paid homage to the fallen soldiers, including Captain Thapa, at a wreath-laying ceremony. The Jammu region has seen a surge in terror attacks recently, including incidents involving army convoys and multiple encounters.
