Two oil tankers, Hafnia Nile, flagged under Singapore, and Ceres I, flagged under Sao Tome and Principe, collided on Friday near the Singapore Straits. The collision caused both vessels to catch fire, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
The Iranian oil ministry swiftly issued a statement on Saturday clarifying that neither tanker was carrying Iranian crude oil. 'The crude oil of neither of these damaged oil tankers was related to Iran and did not belong to Iran,' the statement read, dispelling any speculation of Iranian involvement.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident while ensuring the safety of the maritime environment in the region. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
