India Boosts Bhutan's Economic Stimulus with Rs 1,500 Crore Support

India has agreed to provide Rs 1,500 crore to Bhutan as part of the Economic Stimulus Programme over the next 18 months. The decision was announced following Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's visit to Bhutan, where he discussed various bilateral cooperation aspects with Bhutanese leadership.

India has committed Rs 1,500 crore to Bhutan's Economic Stimulus Programme over the next 18 months, according to a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's visit to Bhutan.

Misri, on his first foreign trip since taking office, reviewed development cooperation with Bhutanese counterpart Aum Pema Choden. Discussions included development partnership, energy, trade, connectivity, and more.

The two governments highlighted strong bilateral ties and agreed on multiple projects, including 61 new initiatives encompassing sectors like education, health, and digital economy. This follows India’s broader development support of Rs 10,000 crore for Bhutan's 13th Five Year Plan announced earlier this year.
