Chandipura Virus Outbreak: Gujarat Records 50 Cases, 16 Fatalities

Gujarat is grappling with a surge in Chandipura virus cases, reporting 50 infections and 16 deaths across the state, Health Minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed. In Himmatpur alone, 14 cases have surfaced, with seven patients currently hospitalized. Additionally, three cases have been reported from other states.

Patel emphasized that comprehensive information about the virus has been disseminated in villages and Community Health Centers. Despite the scare among children, lab testing in Pune revealed only one confirmed case. The symptoms, often mistaken for the virus, could also indicate encephalitis.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reviewed the state's measures to curb the outbreak, collaborating with top health officials via video conferencing. He directed local authorities to spray Malathion powder and ensure immediate treatment for fever cases. Efforts include mobilizing grassroots healthcare workers to mitigate the spread in rural areas.
