State-owned Coal India has announced its successful acquisition of a critical mineral asset, a graphite block, in Madhya Pradesh.
The acquisition positions Coal India advantageously in supporting the green energy transition, according to an official statement. The company emerged as the preferred bidder for the Khattali Chotti graphite block in Alirajpur district during a recent auction held by the Ministry of Mines.
The company, which produces over 80% of domestic coal, is venturing into non-coal mineral mining for the first time. The bid was won with a mining premium rate of 150.05%. Once Coal India completes the necessary formalities, a composite license will be issued within a year.
