According to the Union Budget 2024-25 documents, 63 paise out of every rupee in the government coffer will come from direct and indirect taxes. The remaining 27 paise will come from borrowings and other liabilities, 9 paise from non-tax revenue like disinvestment, and 1 paise from non-debt capital receipts.
Direct taxes will contribute 36 paise, with income tax yielding 19 paise and corporate tax 17 paise. Indirect taxes, including GST, will bring in 18 paise, with 5 paise from excise duty and 4 paise from customs levy. The collection from borrowings and liabilities will stand at 27 paise per rupee.
On the expenditure side, 19 paise will be allocated for interest payments, 21 paise for states' share of taxes and duties, 8 paise for defense, 16 paise for central sector schemes, and 8 paise for centrally-sponsored schemes. Other expenditures will include 9 paise for 'Finance Commission and other transfers,' 6 paise for subsidies, and 4 paise for pensions. An additional 9 paise will be spent on other expenditures.
