Notorious Shooter Vineet Malik Apprehended by Delhi Police

On Tuesday, Delhi Police apprehended Vineet Malik, a notorious shooter linked to a high-profile murder in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Malik, who had been on the run, frequently changing locations within the Delhi-NCR region, was arrested near a traffic signal in Jagatpuri, New Delhi, following a tipoff.
The murder on June 5, 2024, involved the broad daylight shooting of Laakhan Singh in Murad Nagar, Ghaziabad. The case was registered under FIR No. 364/24 at PS Kankarkheda, Meerut, with charges under sections 302 (murder) and 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the IPC. A dedicated team from AEKC, Crime Branch, Delhi, relentlessly tracked Malik using intelligence, technical surveillance, and inputs from informers.
A confirmed sighting of Malik in Jagatpuri led to a coordinated operation resulting in his arrest. During interrogation, Malik, a 42-year-old resident of Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, confessed to the murder, citing prolonged harassment of his niece by the victim, Laakhan Singh, as the motive.
