Punjab Pushes for Special Financial Package from 16th Finance Commission

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has made a compelling case to the 16th Finance Commission for a special package of Rs 1.32 lakh crore. The state’s memorandum, divided into 14 sections, emphasizes Punjab's financial condition and requirements, seeking to rectify financial disparities and promote sustainable development.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Wednesday that the AAP government has strongly presented the state's case related to development targets, challenges, and requirements to the 16th Finance Commission.

Cheema expressed optimism that the Finance Commission, based on the shared facts, would recommend that the Union government provision Rs 1,32,247 crore for Punjab's needs.

The Punjab government requested a special package of Rs 1.32 lakh crore during the Finance Commission's visit to the state. The memorandum given to Finance Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya detailed the state's financial condition since 1980, divided into 14 comprehensive sections.
