Ekurhuleni Municipality is addressing a significant sewer blockage that has closed an intersection on Ermelo Road, impacting Strubenvale and Casseldale roads in the Springs city center.

City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini provided an update on the ongoing repair efforts. The issue began with a sewer spillage, which led to the discovery of a major blockage and several bottlenecks in the sewer network.

"The team is working diligently to clear the debris causing the blockage. Immediate action is crucial to prevent further contamination and potential health hazards," Dlamini stated.

The repairs involve assessing the ground level to ensure proper wastewater direction, replacing and installing new water pipes, and updating damaged and aged manholes to improve maintenance access and reduce future risks.
