The Indian Air Force (IAF) presented the inaugural performance of its Agniveervayu Women's drill team at India Gate on Friday. The event marked Rajat Jayanti Vijay Diwas and honored soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War.
The team featured 29 Agniveervayu members. Priyanka Sara, an Agniveervayu from Jaipur, shared her journey, stating, 'I enrolled for NCC during my schooling and hold an A Certificate. My father works in Rajasthan State Transport Corporation and my mother is a homemaker. My Agniveervayu training is unique, and I am the first woman in my family to join the armed forces. I was inspired by the disciplined life of the armed forces and passionate about the uniform.'
Speaking on her passion for the Indian Air Force, she added, 'I am fond of all three forces but have a special inclination towards the Indian Air Force. Our drill team's training is rigorous, focusing on building physical and mental stamina. I am proud to be part of this team.'
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. He laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, marking the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas. The day, observed annually on July 26, celebrates the success of Operation Vijay, during which Indian forces reclaimed strategic positions in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil sector from Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
