The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched disciplinary proceedings against two engineers from the Karol Bagh Zone following basement flooding at a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, which tragically resulted in three deaths. According to an order from the MCD Deputy Commissioner's office, disciplinary actions are being taken against Vishram Meena, Assistant Engineer in the Works Department, Karol Bagh Zone, who has been suspended with immediate effect.
The MCD order also terminated the contract of Vinay Mittal, Junior Engineer (Maintenance) in the office of the Executive Engineer, Karol Bagh Zone. Meanwhile, the Delhi police have arrested seven individuals, including an SUV driver, in connection with the incident. DCP (Central) M Harshvardhan revealed that five more individuals, including the basement owners and the SUV driver responsible for damaging the building's gate, have been arrested.
DCP Harshvardhan stated, "Negligence on the part of the arrested driver has been proven. He was driving at high speed, which led to the gate of the coaching center breaking and increased water flow into the premises." The tragic event claimed the lives of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalwin. Following the incident, the MCD sealed 13 coaching centers in Karol Bagh for violating building by-laws amid student protests. Mayor Shelly Oberoi has mandated strict action against illegal coaching centers.
