Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called for rapid relief and rescue operations after landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, resulted in 24 fatalities on Tuesday. Kharge offered his condolences and urged governmental coordination to provide immediate assistance.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi expressed her sadness over the tragedy, calling for swift action from the government. Both leaders used social media to convey their messages and appeal for urgent intervention.

At least 24 people lost their lives and around 70 others were injured in the landslides that struck Meppadi area of Wayanad at 3.49 am. A control room has been established by the district administration to manage the crisis, operating under the state police chief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Modi assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of all necessary assistance from the Centre.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also voiced his concerns, pledging coordination with Union Ministers for relief efforts. Chief Minister Vijayan emphasized the government's active role in rescue operations, ensuring that ministers oversee and expedite the processes.
