India's Sugar Production Set to Decline 2% in 2024-25, ISMA Reports

India's sugar production is projected to decline by 2% to 333 lakh tonnes for the 2024-25 marketing year, according to the Indian Sugar Mills & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA). The forecast is based on satellite imagery, field reports, and rainfall impacts. Despite the decline, excess stock will support ethanol blending and exports.

India's sugar production is forecasted to decline by 2% to 333 lakh tonnes in the upcoming 2024-25 marketing year, as per preliminary estimates released by the Indian Sugar Mills & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA).

The estimate, which was released on Tuesday, is based on extensive analysis including satellite imagery, field reports on yields, sugar recovery rates, and the impact of both previous and current year rainfall.

Despite the projected decline, the excess stock of sugar will ensure support for the Ethanol Blending Program and exports in the 2024-25 season, according to ISMA.
