In response to heavy downpours, Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced that all schools, both government and private, would remain closed on Thursday. She made the announcement through her official handle on the microblogging site X, citing the forecast of continued heavy rainfall.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi echoed this decision on her X handle, confirming that all Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) schools would remain closed on August 1. The move comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported an incoming convergence of clouds over Delhi, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Meanwhile, rain-related incidents have escalated. A woman and her child drowned in a waterlogged drain in East Delhi. Additionally, a house collapse in the Sabzi Mandi area delayed emergency services due to traffic congestion. The heavy rainfall also led to significant waterlogging, causing traffic jams and flight diversions.
