Devotees Flock to Mahakaleshwar Temple for Sawan Shivratri Celebrations

Devotees gathered at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, to celebrate Sawan Shivratri. They worshipped Lord Shiva, offering prayers and seeking blessings. The month of Sawan holds special significance with additional rituals like offering sesame seeds to the deity for prosperity.

Scores of devotees thronged the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday to mark the occasion of 'Sawan Shivratri'. They came to offer prayers, honor Lord Shiva, and seek divine blessings.

The entire month of Sawan is considered auspicious for devotees, but the enthusiasm was particularly palpable on Sawan Shivratri. Kanwariyas traveled from various places, carrying Kavad to offer Jal (water) to Baba Mahakal. Temple priest Mahesh Sharma told ANI, 'Sawan month is regarded as Lord Shiva's month. Devotees worshipping Lord Shiva during this period reap significant blessings. Sawan Shivratri is as important as the annual Shivratri.'

Sharma highlighted the importance of offering sesame seeds to Lord Shiva during Sawan Shivratri. 'It is believed that those who present sesame seeds to Shiva never face financial hardships. Hence, offering sesame seeds holds substantial significance.' Sawan Shivratri, a prominent Hindu festival, marks the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and falls on the 14th day of the lunar month. This year's Sawan Shivratri, on August 2, drew immense enthusiasm as the sacred month is dedicated to worship, fasting, and pilgrimage.
